Individual Services
Every artist needs an artist’s statement,
one that briefly and succinctly paints a picture of you and your art in
words. Creating an artist’s statement is much like creating a work of
art. It’s personal; it’s about communicating to the viewer or reader;
it’s about flow, rhythm, structure and choice of color—in this case,
words. As a professional writer and editor with 25 years of experience
and an artist, I work with artists to create a statement and bio that
present you and your art to the public and to gallery owners.
Workshops
No doubt you have read artists’ statements that left you wondering what
the artist was trying to tell you. I call that the Huh? Factor. Avoiding
the Huh? Factor is one of the many writing tips in my workshop,
ArtWrite: Putting Your Art in Words. Other
tips include the Hygiene Bomb, Seduction, Kill Your Darlings and the Duh
Factor along with class exercises to help you find the right words for
your art. I have designed this workshop to help artists create a
statement and bio. We also cover the anatomy of a press release.
Check News and Events for scheduled
workshops. Or, if you have a group of six to 10 artists who are
interested, contact me about scheduling a private group session.
